XMR query

Hi all,

Just a question regarding withdrawing XMR from exchanges.

Is it good practice to withdraw using a different sub address every time you make a withdrawal from the same exchange? Or is it sufficient to use the one sub address considering it’s from the one exchange.

A lot of non kyc levels in exchanges have withdrawal limits, so perhaps one would have to send their balance over multiple days. Based on this, the exchange would know u are making multiple withdrawals to the one address, and off chain analysis could make it seem that it’s going to the same person.

Just a thought, looking forward to opinions.

Thanks.

  1. Chain analysis could make nothing of it, only the exchange knows you’re sending to the same address (or different ones).

Having said that, it always makes sense using different addresses given the choice.

  2. Monero: create a new subaddress every time you will receive from a new entity (a new exchange/company/person). If your wallet has this option, every time you create a new address, create a label with the name of the entity you gave this address to. If you always do this, it is ok to reuse an address with the same entity you gave it before.

Bitcoin: create a new address every time you will receive Bitcoin. Never reuse addresses.

No. Use a subaddress per *entity* (i.e. for each person/vendor/company), not per *transaction*.
