First transaction purchasing merchandise online with crypto. Complete bust!

Attempted my first transaction purchasing merchandise online with crypto. Complete bust! The merchant used Coinbase Commerce.
I watched the blockchain confirmations until they reached 8 and success. Received a confirmation email.
About an hour later I get a email from the vender saying sale canceled. I send them the verification transaction success. They send one back saying failed. They said Coinbase deposited the money there removed it as it was a declined transaction.
I don’t feel like this is right. The purpose of the blockchain is to confirm the transaction as far as I understand it.
Coinbase support has not been very useful as of the last 3 days. Not sure what my options are. It’s only $100 but that was a gift for my son. Now I feel pretty cheated. I want to salvage my belief in crypto currency as a reliable means of replacing the power that government has over fiat currency.

What do you think?

  1. There is a lot of fraud taking place with those using coinbase commerce as a means to defraud customers, since it cannot be reversed. If it wasn’t a well known established business, I would definitely check more into it to see if that is the case.

  3. i would say likely fraud, saying it was canceled to get you to send more, as once crypto is sent you cant get it back, follow the transaction on blockchain, can see if it was sent to there wallet

  4. It’s crazy that so many people are having issues cause I’ve honestly had no problems at all with CB so far and have made numerous ETH and Doge transactions to vendors and friends. Sorry to hear about your guys’ misfortune, seriously. Hopefully I didn’t just jinx myself 😂
