Breakout boards

Hello
Im planning to buy my first server power supply, along a breakout board.
I have a few questions about the latter

I’ve seen some that come with 12 pcie 6 pin connectors, while others offer 17.
Pro and cons of each? The 17 less safer?

Some boards come bundled with pcie cables.
Are those sort of universal? If I need more of those , would they be compatible even if I buy them from a different vendor?

Though I have seen a few with atx connector, many don’t come with it. If I get one of the latter, is there some sort of 6 pin to atx adapter so I can get rid of the classic psu?

In general , what do I need to look for a breakout board? Safety , for sure.
But good providers? I heard of Parallel Miners but I have seen many on ebay and ali express as well. Prices are tempting but don’t want buy a potential hazard.

Thanks!

The 12 PCIe 6-pin and the 17 PCIe 6-pin are equally safe. Get the 17 PCIe 6-pin so you can connect more GPU’s directly. Example on my 5X Vega 56 rig each Vega 56 needed three 6-pin to 8/6-pin cables (two for the Vega 56 and one for the Riser each) so 15 cables for the GPUs.

I have never had any issues purchasing these cables separately.

What you want is a “6Pin 180W Pico PSU” Search ebay with these terms. I have powered all my mining rig motherboards using these. There are also 250W versions. These come with the necessary connectors for powering the motherboard (24 pin motherboard power and 4-pin CPU power) and also IDE SATA power connectors.
