ACH transferred cleared but CoinBase says cancelled?

I have done many ACH transfers from my bank to my coinbase pro account and last week I did another. Nothing has changed, my Chase checking shows it went through and debited the amount. This morning I get an email from CoinBase stating “we cancelled your transaction.” I thought why would CB cancel my transaction? I proceeded to read the email and it states it was my bank that cancelled the transaction and asked for another payment method. Wait, huh? I see a debit to my checking account, my bank has never contacted me about any issues and this sum was a lot lower than my previous transfers.

I haven’t called my bank, but my initial reaction after checking my bank account is this must be a CoinBase mistake. Anyone else have this issue? I created a ticket, never had an issue with CB until now.

What do you think?

  1. Same email for me received today for a July 13th transaction, except it didn’t say my bank canceled it. It just says ‘When we attempted to process this transaction it was canceled’.

  2. I received this email as well for a July 13th transaction. My bank cleared the transaction and I was charged. I spent the USDC I purchased already as I was adding funds to my debit card. I also never received my cash back for the transaction that day. I called coinbase support and they literally told me they can’t help me and I need to contact them through their email support.

  3. Same here, but it was with a withdrawal. The withdrawal succeeded but Coinbase said it didn’t and gave me my money back. I did a second withdrawal to see what would happen. lol

EDIT: Just wanted to add that I am not using Chase. It was also done on 7/13.

  5. yezzir as of july 13th 2021, for a 10 dollar debit purchase occuring june 3rd…. coinbase just mentioned it and today is day 5 where it wont let me use my bank as a payment method i deposited 10 with my bank which it let me and is sitting as pending for 3 more days and deposited 10.30 with paypal in my cash balance which is good to go. im not sure why my bank payment method wont work but it says under the same message you have restricting your activity that after 5 days of no payment they will sell any crypto i have to quash the 10 bucks so thats ganna be today and as far as i know the 10.30 from paypal that is settled should cover it. Did you ever make a claim with your bank over the smaller amount my good sir?

  6. I received the same email.
I Checked everything and looks like the transaction cleared fine.
I’ll give it a day and see if I receive anything tomorrow.

Please let us know if you receive anything else.

  7. OP, if you decide to dispute this charge, you will be in a better position if you first withdraw any remaining balance in your CB account to your bank account, or Coinbase will simply seize the funds from your remaining CB balance (selling coins if necessary), and they may then lock your account.

Also, if you have used the Plaid service to connect your bank account to CB, be sure to revoke that permission on your bank account, to make it more difficult for CB to claw back the reversed funds.

Even if CB is in the wrong, as long as they have any of your funds, the old saying “possession is 9/10ths of the law” applies here.

  8. I have one also but it doesn’t say my bank canceled and its cleared my bank. I already moved ETH to my Ledger
